Temple of the Grand Jaguar, AKA "Tigre"
Just looking at the Inguat map, the formal name appears on what must
be the most famous icon of Guatemalan tourism. But one actually hears
it called Tigre by the locals. It resides on the main plaza at Tikal,
an international park in the Peten District in the northern part of
the country. Flights are easy out of Guatemala City to this primier
Mayan site and if you are a tourist you might be able to include this
side trip when you get your ticket in the states or the EU. The museum
is good ... to enjoy the rain forest an overnight plan to stay at one
of the hotels is worth it. The young and adventurous travelers get to
Tikal by bus, a more social experience. Rick claims he will one day
ride there on his BMW.
