Temple of Inscriptions was Pacal's tomb
"We saw space ships on the Gulf and over by Palenque," the tourists told Abercrombie, who was getting nervous listening to his lunch guests. "The fishermen told us about seeing a great beam of light pour down on them ... it left them like sun burnt." Rick's traveling partner was rolling his eyes in a wide arch.
The tomb itself was covered by a lid that a crazy German named Erich Von Daniken claimed was carved as a Chariot of the Gods, a space ship. There are some great accounts of just what Palenque was actually about, the truth being stranger than fiction. Rick always suggests The Ancient Maya, the Fifth Edition by Robert J. Sharer, perhaps because the photographer has a photo in this edition on page 84.
